If the person is fishing with plastic bait like a worm, they want to retrieve the bait by making it look natural. Since worms don’t swim fast through the water, the bait should slowly be brought through the water. Moving the bait up and down a little also imitates the action of the lure. Many times, a new or inexperienced person will have the right set up but be using it in the wrong way. Learn to be patient while fishing and a person will have more luck. The bass will still eat, but they aren’t going to swim along way when it is cold. They will depend on an ambush to catch their meal. This is an excellent time to use flipping and try to be precise. If the bait is right in front of a bass, it’s more likely that it will eat it instead of chasing something else through the water.
